IMMG-PU Alumnus Dr. Hasnain Javed Appointed ASM Country Ambassador for Pakistan

The Institute of Microbiology and Molecular Genetics (IMMG), University of the Punjab, distinguished alumnus, Dr. Hasnain Javed, has been appointed as the ASM Country Ambassador for Pakistan (2026–2028) by the American Society for Microbiology (ASM).
The American Society for Microbiology is one of the world’s largest and most prestigious scientific organizations dedicated to advancing the microbial sciences, promoting global awareness, and strengthening research, education, and laboratory capacity in microbiology. Dr. Javed’s selection reflects his significant contributions to public health microbiology, biosafety, and laboratory systems strengthening at both national and international levels.
Dr. Javed completed his PhD in Microbiology and Molecular Genetics from IMMG, University of the Punjab, in 2018. He currently serves as the Molecular Biologist and Focal Person at the Provincial Public Health Reference Laboratory (BSL-3), Punjab AIDS Control Program, where he leads molecular diagnostics, genomic surveillance, and biosafety initiatives. He has also authored more than 70 peer-reviewed international publications.
In addition, Dr. Javed is the President of the IMMG Alumni Association, actively fostering academic collaboration and strengthening the alumni network. His appointment as ASM Country Ambassador marks a proud milestone, as this prestigious international recognition has been awarded for the first time to a representative from Punjab Province.
